The Full Story
Welcome to my journey! I'm glad you're here!!
As a lifelong writer, I realized my passion while attending the University of North Texas where creative writing classes ignited my love for telling a story. Then I stepped away, married and had a family. For years I concentrated on raising our daughters and managing a busy farm and equally active bustling household. I began to dream of writing the ultimate novel or a short story worth publishing in a magazine. One day I picked up a pencil and couldn't resist putting pen to paper once again. Although by now, it was keyboard to computer!
Encouraged by a dear friend, I ventured into the world of romantic writing and joined a local chapter of the national association of Romance Writers of America. I attended their offered classes, established life-long friendships with accomplished authors - who were always willing to help! - and I learned. So much it staggered the brain! I began to enter my work in writing competitions held by other chapters of Romance Writers in various states across the US. And after heeding to a lot of red pen comments and suggestions, I began to win.
In 2014, I entered the contest for the highest award given in the category of romance. The Golden Heart. Entries for this competition came in from all over the world. They capped acceptance of entries at 1,000. And two months later, I received official notification that I was a finalist. I flew to New York, attended a banquet that seated 3000 writers, editors, agents and publishers.
And I won.
And had to give a speech. And almost fell down the stairs going back to my linen-covered table in a formal gown! (Geesh!!) But I came back to Texas with the Golden Heart, Harlequin bought the rights to my story and four months later, I became a published author. Multiple book contracts were offered after that.
I wrote romance novels for Harlequin over the next twelve years. During this time, I continued to enter and win literary competitions on new stories, receiving the highest compliments and solid attributions from RWOA, established authors, and many bookstores (e.g. Barnes and Noble, Walden Books), giving my work an average of 4.5 to 4.8 stars out of 5.
I love to write, especially expressing my feelings, beliefs, and opinions in a format everyone can read and enjoy.
Join me and allow me to turn your experiences and needs into a unique story, speech, monthly blog, or declaration within the writing world.
I will look forward to hearing from you! Thanks for your time!
Sarah
